On Page SEO
We have written about what SEO is and why it’s so important. Now we’ll turn our attention to On-page SEO tactics. On-page simply refers to what you do within your own websites page to help it to rank more effectively in the search engines. Up until only 3 or 4 years ago, on-page SEO was thought to be hugely important on how and where a website would rank in the search engines, particularly Google. However, many webmasters cut corners with their On-page SEO. For example, they would do things like keyword stuff in the meta tag area which is the area near the top of a web page where you would insert your most important keywords.
Google in particular identified this very quickly and then changed their algorithms to reduce the emphasis upon On-page SEO accordingly. So today don’t make it a point to try and fill your page up with the same keywords time and time again. It will not be helpful to your goal and indeed will be detrimental.
Today, Google in particular, and Yahoo Search and Bing put more emphasis on something called LSI or Latent Semantic Indexing. Quite a mouthful, but in simple terms it means you really want to ensure the writing on your website is natural and flowing, just like mine is here. In fact, everything I am writing about SEO and in these articles is all from the top of my head so it’s very easy to just write naturally. It does not sound as natural if you stage it with repeated keywords over and over again.
So, if you know your subject matter then the keywords that are often used to describe the subject will be automatic to you and you will use them naturally as you write. The big search engines have become so clever now that they can determine this, at least to a large extent, and you will be rewarded for it and will help your site rank more effectively.
